Perseverance is essential, especially in challenging situations where results are hard to achieve.Through group work, the SI Programs provide students with training to maximize the knowledge and skills they have acquired in their regular university classes. Please take this invaluable opportunity to join students from other countries, regions and family backgrounds at Waseda International Student House (WISH) and set out on the path to your true potential. Students sometimes find themselves at a loss, lacking motivation as they start their college life because the big goal they had been chasing, “getting into university” is now accomplished and is no longer an aspiration. Yet that is exactly why this is a great opportunity for you to look into yourself once again and find what you value, which life direction you would like to navigate towards, and what you want to do with your life. This program will help you to identify and articulate your own principles for living; it will prepare you to go forward into a purposeful four-year period of university life. In the Self-Motivation Program, students cultivate four elements essential for success in today’s global society: consensus building, communication, motivation, and independence. The program, which uses teaching materials that are actually used in human resources development work in major companies, aims to improve the above elements through group work and role playing by WISH students from a variety of backgrounds. Understanding your own behavior, attitudes, and values through the perspectives of others is extremely important for communication. Common sense may differ from person to person, particularly in the global environment, so in the Global Communication program, the students share perceptions of differences in culture and values through discussion, and through role playing and case studies learn ways to communicate effectively with those from different backgrounds. Please be aware that participation in SI Programs is compulsory for WISH residents. The programs are held at WISH from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on weekdays during term time. Residents are strongly recommended to attend more than one of the elective session courses. SI Program Fee: 22,000 yen/year (tax included) It is important for university students to have a clear perception of work and membership in society. This program offers students oppor-tunities to associate directly with full-fledged members of society, and supports them in their work to clarify the ideal adult image that they aspire to. Waseda University’s 13 departments engage in a wide range of research and education activities, and give students the opportunity to develop a high level of expertise through their regular university classes. In the Faculty Visits program, Waseda University faculty members visit WISH and give informative, wide-ranging presentations about their life and work as professional researchers. In this program, residents and RAs autonomously plan and manage classes and lectures. They deliver presentations in various styles, shar-ing their experience or knowledge. They also invite external lecturers such as business people to conduct lectures.
